Long Term Plan

At the open house, a number of families asked to see what topics we would be covering over the next few months. I have included the information below for your planning and information. When we work on each topic can change during the course of the year. On a day-to-day basis, please see the daily agenda page where you can see what was done each day and you can work with your student. I hope this information is helpful. 

Term 1

Math:

Number Sense - Represent, order, and compare numbers, including decimals.

Algebra - Create patterns and determine pattern rules. Coding.

Data Management - Create, interpret and choose the appropriate graph.

Spatial Sense - Area and Perimeter. Classify and create triangles using instructions.

Financial Literacy - Unit Rates and Tax.

Science:

Human Body systems and diseases that affect the human body.

Properties of matter. Also, physical vs. chemical changes.

Social Studies:

Role of Government in Canada. Rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizens.

Language: 

Reading - Reading groups, independent reading and reading instruction will continue throughout the year on a daily basis.

Writing - A variety of written assignments and projects will be ongoing throughout the school year.

Term 2

Math:

Number Sense - Fractions, decimals and their connections.

Algebra - Algebraic expressions and inequalities. Coding.

Data Management - Probability of events and fractional representations.

Spatial Sense - Moving objects on a grid and Transformations.

Financial Literacy - Budgets, debt and credit cards.

Science:

Energy - Types of energy, how we generate electricity and conservation of energy.

Structures and forces acting on structures

Social Studies:

Interaction between Canada's indigenous people and early European explorers

Language: 

Reading - Reading groups, independent reading and reading instruction will continue throughout the year on a daily basis.

Writing - A variety of written assignments and projects will be ongoing throughout the school year.
